An important Region 15 match between Emery and Manti took place in the Spartan Center on Wednesday, Jan 9.
Emery jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead only to have Manti answer back with an 8-0 run of their own. Brodie Tuttle scored the team’s first nine points as the Spartans ended the back and forth first quarter up 13-8. The fast-paced nature continued throughout the game and the Templars caught up to Spartans to tie the game at 31 to end the half.
Emery was able to separate themselves from Manti in the second half to get the 74-65 victory. Tuttle led the Spartans with 23 points just ahead of Kyson Stilson who scored 22 points. Brax Jensen had a couple nice spin moves on drives he converted into layups that added to his 13 point total. However, his no look dime for an easy Spartan layup might have been the most eye appealing play of the game. Cade Brazier went 3-7 from three point land as he is making his way back onto the court and has been an energy boost for the whole team.
Emery (9-3, 1-2 Region 15) will attempt to get even in region play when they head to North Sanpete (4-9, 0-3 Region 15) on Friday, Jan. 11.
