The Emery Spartans ran away with two double-digit wins over the weekend in Sevier County, beating two quality opponents to keep their undefeated preseason intact.
Emery squared off against South Sevier on Friday at the Sevier Valley Center. Beau Roundy had a monster game, perhaps the best of his career, with 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead his team to a 69-55 win. Koby Butler poured in 18 to go along with 11 boards. Bowdie Jacobson had a good all around game with seven points, eight assists and three rebounds. Kolton Butler also chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
Then on Saturday, Waterford was up next for Emery. The two teams last played each other in the 2012-13 state tournament, a game the Spartans won 51-33. The game on Saturday went the same direction with Emery taking a decisive 61-47 win. Three Spartans scored in double figures, led by Jacobson with 16. Roundy and Koby Butler chipped in 13 apiece. Leading by three after one quarter of play, Emery could muster just seven points in the second and went into halftime down 25-19. The Spartans then outscored the Ravens 32-14 over the final two quarters of play.
Emery (3-0, 0-0 Region 15) will travel to Roosevelt to take on the Union Cougars (2-2, 0-0 Region 10) on Wednesday before hosting the Beaver Beavers (1-1, 0-0 Region 13) on Friday night. Friday’s game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
