Emery School Board Appoints New Superintendent

On Wednesday evening, the Emery School Board appointed Jason Strate as the new superintendent for the district. His duties will begin on June 1 of this year.

Strate is from Central Valley and is currently serving as the director of the Central Utah Education Services (CUES), which is a regional education service agency (RESA).

The CUES RESA’s membership includes Tintic, Juab, North Sanpete, South Sanpete, Sevier, Piute and Wayne schools. Strate has worked in education for 22 years in various positions, including two years at Davis School District as a teacher and 14 years at North Sanpete. He has also served as a coach and administrator before moving to CUES.

At this same meeting, current Superintendent Jared Black also recommended the following hires for board approval: Errol Durrant, warehouse delivery for the child nutrition program; Justina Butler, science teacher at Canyon View Middle School; Phil Feichko, district IT; Maegan Butterfield, librarian at Emery High School; Jeanette Woolsey, secretary at Castle Dale Elementary; Brindy Grange, social studies teacher at San Rafael Middle School; Shadleigh Gordon, teacher at Huntington Elementary; Makaila Grange, teacher at Ferron Elementary; Karen Griffin, district social worker; Michael Ryan Ware, business teacher at Emery High; Jodi Olsen, special education testing advisor at Canyon View Middle School; Jake Mecham, teacher at Green River High; and Brennan Bigelow, social studies teacher at Green River.

These names were all approved unanimously by the board.
