Gearing up for a showdown with the Carbon Dinos Friday night, the Lady Spartans kept their foot on the pedal against an over-matched Wasatch Academy team Thursday night and cruised to a 53-21 win.
With the win, Emery ran its win streak to nine games and overall has won 13 of 14.
It took the second-ranked Spartans nearly four minutes to score in the game. However, they had a 9-0 run to end the first quarter while pressing relentlessly and held the Tigers to just two points in the frame.
Kelci Cox’s four-point play at the 4:50 mark in the third quarter gave Emery a commanding 27-12 lead. The Spartans went on to outscore the Tigers 26-9 to end the game.
Ashlynn Allred led all scorers in the game with 14. Nine other Lady Spartans scored at least two points. Emery’s defense held Wasatch to a season-low of 21 points, with their previous low being 35.
Emery (13-2, 5-0 Region 15) will travel to Carbon (7-9, 1-2 Region 12) Friday for the second and final matchup of the season. The Spartans beat the Dinos 40-32 Dec. 19 in Castle Dale.
