Cross-county rivals Carbon and Emery High were joined by Grand Tuesday evening as Emery hosted a swim meet.
The Lady Dinos managed a first-place victory at the meet, notching 197 points while the Lady Spartans settled for second with 152.5. The Emery Boys’ Team, however, swam away with first and a total of 243 while Carbon’s boys walked away with third overall, just under 100 points.
Carbon’s 200-yard medley relay team of Megan Swasey, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Amanda Liu grabbed first and a time of 2:07.78 while Emery took the next two victories with teams of Sydney Terwilleger, Angellena Migliori, Kaelee Hooley and Erin Oliverson taking second and Laci Hulse, Harmony Willson, Shiloh Hayward and Tarryn Parkins combining for third.
Carbon’s Emily Jespersen grabbed third for the blue and white in the 200-yard free while teammate Megan Swasey grabbed second in the 200-yard IM. Emery’s BriAnne Bass managed third in the same race.
Lady Dino Amanda Liu placed first in the 50-yard free, coming in at 28:46 with Emery’s Katie Carter and Erin Oliverson coming in behind with second and third. Carbon represented well in the 100-yard fly when Veronica Ibanez grabbed first with a 1:09.69 finish and Liu grabbing second.
Carter returned in the 100-yard free, grabbing a first for Emery and a time of 1:05.66, pushing Carbon’s Crompton and Jespersen to second and third places. Ibanez also grabbed a third for Carbon in the 500-yard freestyle.
Emery’s first-place team of Alexis Johansen, Bass, Oliverson and Carter finished in the 200-yard freestyle relay with 1:57.67 while Carbon’s Shannon Baker, Crompton, Jespersen and Barrett grabbed third. Megan Swasey and Shannon Baker managed second and third in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
Carbon grabbed another first in the 100-yard breaststroke with Sadie Crompton clocking in at 1:17.34 while Emery’s Kaelee Hooley and Carbon’s Kaisha Lott settled for second and third, respectively.
Carbon’s 400-yard freestyle relay team made up of Ibanez, Megan Swasey, Baker and Liu grabbed second while Lady Spartans Johansen, Bass, Hooley and Carter grabbed third.
Emery’s boys’ team started out strong with the 200-yard medley relay team of Deegan Minchey, Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon and Nate Gilbert grabbing first and coming in at 1:50.32. Emery’s second team of Eli Beagley, Parker Stilson, Malone Moss and Levi Olsen grabbed third.
Daryl Guymon returned for another first, clocking in at 1:57.76 in the 200-yard freestyle with teammate Gage Jensen taking third. Keldan Guymon and Garret Stilson also grabbed second and third for the 200-yard IM. Gilbert, Logan Cox and Minchey took the top three in the 50-yard free, with Gilbert taking first in 23.61.
Gilbert grabbed another first in the 100-yard fly, 1:05.38, with Carbon’s Ryan Chamberlain taking second. Daryl Guymon had another first-place finish for Emery, finishing the 100-yard free in 51.48 with Cox and Jonathan Seely taking second and third.
Jensen and Allen Durrant scored for the black and gold, taking second and third in the 500-yard free. Stilson, Keldan Guymon, Minchey and Gilbert grabbed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and a time of 1:39.55 with Carbon’s Tyson Swasey, Kinnon Lyman, Chad Laursen and Chamberlain coming in second and Emery’s Durrant, Seely, Beagley and Cox settling for third.
Dino Tyson Swasey returned in the 100-yard backstroke for a first-place time of 1:05.23 while Minchey and Stilson grabbed second and third for the Spartans. Keldan Guymon and Stilson returned in the 100-yard breaststroke with the former coming in first at 1:08.66.
The boys’ teams rounded out the meet with the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Emery’s Daryl Guymon, Seely, Cox and Stilson grabbing first, 3:48.07 and Carbon’s Tyson Swasey, Josh McCourt, Laursen and Chamberlain grabbing second.
