The Emery Spartans traveled to Hideout for a region golf tournament on Tuesday. Though struggling, the team managed to pull off a third place finish.

“Beautiful course, beautiful day, not a great day for our golfers,” head coach Kevin Reynolds said. “They struggled a little.”

Oakley Toomer took the lead for the Spartans, notching 83. Deryk Fuller came in next with 87 followed by Race Nielson with 91. Emery’s scoring was rounded out by Kyler Farley with 94. McKoy Holt and Shaidyn Killpack also competed for the team, hitting 95 and 110, respectively.

“Oakley Toomer, a freshman, has become a very consistent player and Deryk Fuller played very well,” Reynolds said.

Emery finished the day with 354 behind first place Grand with 322 and Manti with 345. San Juan rounded out the tournament in fourth with 392 while Gunnison notched 398. North Sevier ended the day with 438.

The Spartans will look to move up in the Region 15 standings at Palisade next week.
