Emery beat American Leadership Academy on Wednesday with their first blowout win of the season. The Eagles never had a chance and the Spartans downed ALA 93-46 earning their fourth straight win.
Mcklane Allred had a break out game scoring 16 points with five three pointers after slumping much of the season early. This is a good sign for Mcklane who said “I realized I need to stop caring how I did and start caring about my team and to just have fun.” Dillon Wilstead was the high point man for Emery with 18 on an effective 78% shooting percentage.
Emery jumped out to a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. They played really good team basketball. Five Spartans finished with double figures in scoring. Bailey Faimalo had a triple double watch with 13 points, 10 assists and 7 steals through three quarters before being taken out of the game and Gavin McDermott was very strong on the boards with 14 rebounds.
All of the starting players for Emery sat the fourth quarter, giving some younger players some valuable experience playing on the varsity squad. Led by Tyson Roper who had 17 points in 8 minutes Emery’s bench was able to finish out the game strong.
The only knock on the Spartans performance would be they need to do a better job stopping quality players. Neil Davis of ALA had 32 of the Eagles 46 points so stopping really good players will become key for the Spartans moving forward. Emery squares up against Carbon next on December 27th in an away game where they’ll look to knock off their rivals after losing to them twice last season.
