“In Their Shoes” is the theme chosen for Emery Town’s celebration on July 21 and 22. City council members finalized plans for activities at their meeting Tuesday evening.

The annual softball games will begin the fun on Thursday evening. A fun run and fitness program will start the day on Friday. That evening, a movie will be shown in the park. Saturday will feature a day full of activities. Breakfast from 7-9 a.m., flag raising, parade at 10, followed by a program and kids games in the park. This year a quilt raffle has obtained funds to award prizes to all children who participate in the games. At 1 p.m. horseshoe tournaments and volleyball will begin. The city’s annual dinner and championship softball games will culminate the day just before fireworks. Emery Town is honoring Wayne and Carrie Lou Gremel as grand marshals for the weekend.

Wavne and Carrie Lou Gremel have been chosen as this vear’s ”Honored Citizens” and will lead the Pioneer Day parade to be held July 22 at 10 a.m. Wayne and Carrie Lou have been residents of Moore and Emery since 1970.

Wayne began working for Glendon Johnson in 1967. Glendon had purchased the old Sorensen Ranch and Wayne was asked to move to Moore and work as ranch foreman. He served in this capacity from 1970 until 2002. Carrie Lou began working at the Emery Consol Mine in 1978 as the management assistant and continued there for 17 years. She was also involved in helping Wayne in various capacities on the Ranch.

They are the proud parents of two sons, Cody who lives in the Glenwood Springs area in Colorado. Clay resides in Elko, Nevada. Each own their own businesses and are very successful. Cody and Clay were raised in Moore, Emery and spent time at the Baker Ranch in their youth.

Wayne and Carrie Lou have been active in the community, serving on various boards and each also served as town council members. The city council would like to thank them for their service to the town of Emery.

Also at the meeting, the mayor made adjustments to the responsibilities of each council member. This was necessary because of the resignation of Councilman Jon Sundstrom and installation of councilwoman Shalane Christiansen.

The Mayor Mistie Christiansen announced a meeting on August 17 to discuss their watershed plans with the Conservation District. They are seeking citizens in various fields of concern to attend this meeting. Christiansen extended an invitation from Bronco Mining Personal Relations to visit the mine on August 1 to view the new portal and mine operations. She reported requesting that they make lump and slack coal available for Emery citizens to purchase.

The decision was also made to move the dumpsters from their current location near the cemetery to the city property adjacent to the maintenance shop. After discussion on various invoices for payment, a motion to adjourn was passed.
