After Emery played Millard on Wednesday the team spent the night in Fillmore and traveled to Kanab on Friday to play the Cowboys.

The team encountered some misfortune when the team bus broke down in Martin’s Cove. Emery School District Bus Garage sent a new bus, and the Spartans made it to Kanab with no further problems.
The team’s late arrival resulted in only half of the sophomore game played, the Spartans won the shortened game 41-16. Ridge Nielson was, once again, a main contributor scoring nine points, dishing out five assists, and pick pocketing the Cowboys six times for six steals. Tai Justice continued his hot three-point shooting, hitting four of seven from deep. Jordan Tuttle had his best game, although it was only a half, with seven rebounds and six points. Emery controlled the game both quarters to earn the win.
JV played well beating the Cowboys 68-30. Gavin McDermott scored 18 points, getting nine rebounds while shooting a team-best 75 percent. McDermott poured in most of his points from inside the paint playing with high energy. Otis Addison also continued to improve, knocking down five of six three-point attempts, scoring 15 points. Dillion Wilstead had a well-rounded game dishing out 10 assists and scoring 10, but only shot 33 percent. Emery grabbed the lead early, dismantling Kanab easily.
The Spartans varsity team fell to Kanab 82-67 losing their first game of year. Emery struggled on defense, and didn’t perform on offense. The team played without starting guard Curtis Mason who went to the hospital Thursday night and was unable to play due to illness, which may have been a contributing factor. Not one of the Spartans’ players shot over 50 percent, and as a team only shot 34 percent. Emery also allowed Brandon Jenson to go off for 31 points. Even with the loss, Bay Faimalo shined with 20 points, six assists and four steals before fouling out of the game in the fourth quarter. It was a tightly officiated game with five Spartans fouling out. The Spartans fall to 4-1 on the year and should look to rebound against Carbon at home on Friday, December 14.
