The Union Cougars traveled to Castle Dale Monday to take on the Emery Spartans.
The Spartans were looking for their sixth win of the year against their familiar 3A opponent. It took all four quarters and then an overtime session for Emery to sneak away with the win, 51-48.
Tyson Roper led the Spartans with 13 points. Dillon Willstead chipped in 12. Beau Roundy added eight points.
Emery overcame a sluggish seven-point third quarter to battle back to tie the game at the end of regulation. The Spartans outscored the Cougars 5-2 in the overtime period.
Emery (6-4, 0-0 Region 15) will travel to North Sanpete (6-5, 0-0 Region 12) on Wednesday. The Spartans will then host the Carbon Dinos Friday night in Castle Dale. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m. Emery beat Carbon Dec. 30 74-56 in Price.
