Boosted by 88.5 percent free-throw shooting and steady shooting from beyond the arc, theВ Emery High Boy’s basketball team out-dueled Millard to win 68-59 Friday.
The Spartans led from the outset, scoring 19 points in the first quarter and 18 in the second, to lead by nine at the half. They stretched the lead to 15 at the end of the third quarter, and held on to win by nine points.
In a game where players were launching and, at times, hitting 3-point shots from NBA range–Millard hit nine 3-point shots in the game– Emery’s excellent free-throw percentage was especially important.
The Spartans hit 23 of their 26 attempts, giving them a huge advantage over the Eagles, who only had 12 attempts in the game.
Dallon Cologie scored 20 of the teams’ 68 points with three, 3- point shots. The spartan’s second leading scorer was Jordan Cox, who scored 12 points. Brendon Jorgensen and Bailey Faimalo each added a 3-point shot to bring Emery’s total to 5 for the game.
When comparing the game to Emery’sВ loss earlier in the week, Coach JeffsВ commented, “We got the ball a little better and played with better composure. We played defense a little better too.”
The game was broadcast live on ETV 10. You can see the game replayed in the upcoming weeks.
Emery travels to face Piute on Wednesday. The game begins at 7 p.m.
Friday night was also Dunk NВ Donuts night for the students at Emery High. All students who wanted to could participate in a dunk contest. The winner, Chet Funk won a dozen doughnuts after breaking a three-way tie.
