The Spartans headed to Springville on Wednesday to compete in the Red Devil Cross Country meet. Jeff Armstrong and Emric Hendengren from Timpview finished first and second with 16:04 and 16:06 times, respectively.
Bryar Meccariello came in just behind the duo in third with a time of 16:11 followed by teammate Jess Christiansen in fourth at 16:17. Beau Cook took 22nd (17:30), Byron Christiansen 29th (18:15) and Merritt Mecarriello 35th (18:31) to round off Emery’s top five.
Timpview won with a team score of 30 followed by Payson in second with 90 and Emery in third at 93.
On the girls’ side, Emery did not fair as well. Ryleigh Lewis led the Lady Spartans in 30th place followed by Ryleigh Mecarrie in 34th, Carlie Bennett in 37th, Bethany Justice in 38th and Kallee Cook in 40th. Their respective times were 22:50, 23:27, 24:02, 24:39 and 25:09. Heidi Sumsion from Springville won the event with a 18:36 time.
The Spartans will be back at it on Wednesday at North Sanpete.
