A variety of events welcomed Carbon County residents as they entered the fairgrounds to celebrate Independence Day, Friday.

Carbon County and South Eastern Utah Energy Production Association, or SEUEPA, sponsored the 4th annual Energy Days which included free food, contests, a kid’s zone with bouncers, a mechanical bull, pictures with princesses and superheroes, Disney characters, live entertainment and, of course, fireworks.

The events began at 5 p.m. with free hot dog dinner to the first 1,000 people. This was quickly followed by a kids hypnotist show with Hypno HIck the Hypnotist at 5:15 p.m.

Contests began with the kids cupcake eating contest in which Alix Bogdin took first place, Ryker Butler took second place and Samantha Kessler won third place.

The pie eating contest for adults followed with John Bogdin winning first place, Marc Peay taking second place and Scotty Minor winning third place.

SEUEPA members asked trivia questions of event attendees and awarded five dollars for correct answers throughout the evening. In all, four hundred dollars was given away.

The fun continued with an adult hypnotist show, free Cold Stone Ice cream to the first 1,000 people, Coal Shoveling Contest, the live band Fire At Will and fireworks.

The variety band, Fire at Will, started performing at 8 p.m. They are a family-friendly band that performs song selections from the 50’s through today’s hits. The genres expanded from classic rock, pop, to country and the blues. The band members are Mark Stone, Ricky Carter, Will Terris, Lew Woolford and Tucker Hansen. Fire at Will brought the audience to their feet dancing in front of the stage.
