An accident occurred on Friday afternoon around 2:15 p.m. near mile post 222 on Highway 6. The accident involved a semi that blocked traffic in both lanes.
It is reported that a wide-load was traveling eastbound on SR-6 near mile marker 220. The wide-load had two pilot vehicles escorting it. The rear pilot car, a black Dodge Dakota with a female driver, crossed over center lines, side-swiping a white Dodge Caliber traveling westbound.
The Dodge Caliber had two occupants that received minor injuries. After the side-swipe occurred, the black Dodge Dakota then engaged in a head-on accident with a commercial vehicle, water-tanker style, that was westbound. The driver of the Dakota, a 46-year-old female from West Valley City, passed away as a result of her injuries.
The male driver of the commercial vehicle received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. A black Ford Focus that was behind the white Dodge Caliber had to evade the crash and received minor damage and no injuries. Currently, the cause of the accident is under investigation. However, early indications suggest impairment, distracted driving and speed do not appear to be the primary factor.
