Great Life, a golf management company, presented a proposal to the Ferron City Council and the audience at Thursday’s meeting to lease and manage Millsite Golf Course. If Ferron City could secure a patent lease from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Great Life would like to lease Millsite Golf Course and add a fitness gym.

Great Life manages 71 golf courses though out the Midwest and would like to add another network of courses in Southeastern Utah. Ferron City would retain ownership but Great Life would manage and operate the course. Currently, they also manage the Coral Canyon and Ranches Golf Courses. Once a membership pass is purchased, then the owner could golf at any of the courses under Great Life management. If the company were to manage Millsite, Edgehouse would oversee the course. This would make golf more accessible to pass holders and alleviate the cost of operation that Ferron City is struggling with. The entire council was in favor of this lease and Ferron Mayor Adele Justice is working with the BLM to obtain the needed ownership to sign the lease.

Also during the meeting, concerned citizens spoke to the council about the condition of the cemetery. They stated that it is a perpetual care cemetery and the care is not keeping the grass watered, mowed and in good condition. The mayor and council replied that their maintenance employee has been off work for medical reasons but action would be taken immediately to restore the good condition of the grass and grounds at the cemetery.

Justin Snow came before the council to discuss his contract and business ventures on Main Street with the council. He stated he has been working hard to secure needed funding and permits to begin work on the convenience store/gas station and motel. The council replied that his contract stated that in order to use the city property for the $1,000 is up and that he most now pay the city the appraised value of $24,000 to own the property. He stated he would have a check to them the next day.

The council then voted to ratify the contract with Division of Wildlife Resources for its Urban Deer Plan. This means that lethal deer removal will be lawful only by the city through a contract with Frayed Archery to trap and euthanize troublesome deer on property of citizens.

The council also approved the audit report of June for 2018-19. Council members also approved planning and zoning project list for Castle Valley Special Service District.

Discussion continued on the new law created by the state legislature regarding the use of public property. The county law seemed vague to the council and they wanted time to study and create their own ordinance. State law now considers any misuse a felony.

To conclude, a review of Peach Days included notes for changes and improvements. Overall, many felt it was the best Peach Days on record.
