The Ferron City Council announced Thursday that the grand opening for the new back nine at Millsite Golf Course will be held July 9.

Tours of the nine new holes will begin that morning at 8 a.m., with a ribbon cutting at 10 and tournament beginning at 10:30. The Desert Rock Classic will be held Saturday, but the back nine will not be officially open until the July 9 grand opening.

During Thursday’s city council meeting, Mayor Joann Behling thanked the local fire department, the sheriff’s office, and the golf course employees for their help in stopping the flooding that took place at the golf course and on the canyon road earlier in the month. “I’m just really pleased at what you do,” Mayor Behling told course maintenance staff.

Citizens attended the meeting to express their dismay over the lack of progress on the cleanup of condemned trailers at a trailer court on Canyon Road. The city has been fighting for owners to clean up the property for four years, and the city is in the midst of a legal battle to try to achieve a resolution to the problem.

The citizens’ dismay comes from the length of that process, but the council explained that their hands are tied because of the court battle.

The city approved a donation of $200 to the Emery County Relay For Life which will be held overnight on July 15 at the Emery High School Track.
