The Ferron City Council had a full agenda on its hands during its Nov. 14 meeting. However, council members still made sure to take time for a citizen and employee recognition. Councilman Joe Trenery nominated Randy and Lynette Withers as the outstanding citizens due to the duo always being a great help when it comes to the soap box races during the annual Peach Days celebration.
Next, the council canvassed the 2019 general election. While there were 776 registered voters, 387 voted, making the percentage 49.87. Mayor Adele Justice voiced her appreciation for those that ran as well as to the current council members that will be leaving.
The Ferron City sign was delivered recently; however, Mayor Justice stated that it was not what was envisioned and does not represent Ferron. She did state that she appreciated the effort, but wanted something different. She then suggested that changes be made to the current sign and placed on Molen Road coming in from the desert.
Also discussed was the possibility of implementing a Veterans banner program, which would honor local veterans through banners placed within the city. This was presented by city recorder Brittany Yeates. Numbers were presented to the council and options were discussed. Councilman Trenery voted that Yeates move forward with obtaining information for the program, which was agreed upon by the council.
