A fire destroyed a family’s home and livelihood in Wellington on Friday, April 10. The home, located on Coal Creek Road, belonged to Jack and Janelle Hadden.

According to Nickolas Parker, the Haddens’ nephew, the fire began with a spark from a chainsaw that was being used to cut down a tree. The wind carried the flames, igniting a tack shed and beekeeper shed before engulfing the Hadden’s house, storage shed and animal pens. All of the structures are a total loss.

Jack and Janelle relied on the small farm as a source of income, Parker reported. While they were able to save many of their farm animals along with the vehicles, pets were lost to the fire along with the contents of the home. Parker said that many of their farm animals were able to be saved thanks to the quick response of friends, family and local first responders.

“They have lost everything except for the clothes on their backs,” Parker said. “We estimate it will cost in excess of $150k to clean up the destruction and get them back in a position to support themselves.”

Parker explained that the Haddens did not have insurance and relied on the income from the farm. In response to this, two donation avenues have been established for the family. Those who wish to make a contribution to the fundraiser may do so through the links below.
