It is a requirement that students take a fruit or vegetable as part of a reimbursible meal. So often we hear of students discarding these foods because they aren’t a choice they would make on their own.
When seasonally available, we choose to purchase fresh fruits with the hopes that students will eat and enjoy them while getting the nutritional benefit.
Pears are one example of the fresh fruit we are able to serve for lunch. They are always a hit. As we often say, a health food isn’t worth much if students won’t eat it. As you can see, pears are always a welcome addition to school lunch.
