Food for Thought: Students Love Choices

We understand that whenever possible, kids like to have choices about what to eat. Under the National School Lunch Program, we are required to offer set amounts of fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins for lunch.

Students must choose three of these items with at least one being the fruit or vegetable offering. Of course, students are welcome to take all five and many do. Students’ choices may stem from taste preferences while even the social influence of what their friends enjoy can have an impact as well.

We love helping students  tailor school lunch to their tastes as much as we can by offering cheeseburgers as well as hamburgers and giving hot versus mild choices on the Asian lunch in secondary schools. We also offer a variety of condiments and sauces to change things up!
