US Forest Service Press Release
Christmas tree permits will be on sale at the Supervisor’s Office of the Manti-La Sal National Forest beginning Nov. 13 for $10 each. The office, located at 599 W. Price River Drive, Price, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, the office will open Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for permit sales. The office will sell permits through Dec. 24 or until sold out.
Christmas tree permits will not be sold by mail or over the phone.
There is a limit of three permits per person. Purchasers will need to provide a debit or credit card, check, or exact change. Forest Service Offices are not equipped to make change. There will be no refunds. Permits will not be available by phone or mail.
Fourth graders who have an “Every Kid in a Park” pass, may bring the pass to the district office to receive a free Christmas tree permit. Free permits will be issued until the supply is exhausted. A parent or guardian at least 18 years old should accompany the fourth grader. Also, the tag cannot be issued without the presence of the fourth grader who has been issued the EKIP pass. The EKIP pass can be obtained at https://everykidinapark.gov. At the Forest Service office, the paper pass can be exchanged for a plastic pass, which allows fourth graders free access to federal lands and waters across the country for a full year. Free permits cannot be obtained from vendors.
The supervisor’s office sells permits for use on the Ferron/Price Ranger District, which is east of Skyline Drive. The person selling tags will issue each purchaser a map and cutting instructions. Customers traveling long distances for permits should call in advance to determine if permits are still available. Vehicle access, except for snow machines, must be confined to established roads on the Forest. Roads may be muddy, snow packed and slick. Be prepared for winter driving conditions.
