A special reunion was hosted at Price City’s Pioneer Park on Saturday afternoon. This reunion was for those that were employed at Koret in Price.
The Price plant for Koret of California was dedicated on Labor Day in 1968. At the time of opening, the plant included 136 employees from Carbon and Emery counties.
Burk Biersdorf, plant manager from 1968 to 1976, stated that the plant became profitable during the first month of operation, becoming a vital link in the Koret Manufacturing operations. Koret of California was a large, prominent women’s apparel manufacturing company based out of San Francisco.
The growing economy of California had used up all of the available labor force, creating a need for an additional plant. Thus the decision to have a location out-of-state was made. The decision to make a location in Price was due, according to Biersdorf, to the efforts of the Pro Carbon Development Corporation.
In July of 1968, Biersdorf and his family were relocated from San Francisco to Price to oversee the final construction and start the employee selection. When speaking to Biersdorf and other managers that followed in his succession, they all stated that the employees were the best part of the company.
The reunion brought the owner, old managers and employees together after many years apart. Those in attendance were able to enjoy lunch prepared on site while reminiscing with past coworkers.
