Former PTA Treasurer Arrested for Theft

Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

On January 20, 2016, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office was approached by the State of Utah PTA Board and Wellington Elementary PTA President Sheena Grant to report a discrepancy in the schools PTA funds.

Grant reported a deficiency in the PTA account in an amount that exceeded $3,000.

Further investigation by the sheriff’s office revealed several discrepancies that occurred while former PTA Treasurer Nichole Nelson was in charge of balancing the financial records for the organization.

Sheriff’s detective Rory Bradley completed his investigation after several days of sorting through bank statements and interviews with several outside entities. On January 29, 2016, Nelson was booked into the Carbon County Jail on one count of theft, a 3rd degree felony. All charges will be screened by the Carbon County Attorney’s Office.
