A former Castle Dale resident and Emery High teacher was recently recognized at BYU with the Karl G. Maeser Professional Faculty Excellence Award. This award recognizes and acknowledges senior faculty members who are outstanding scholars, teachers and university citizens. It specifically recognizes excellence in and rewards superior classroom instruction.
“Duane B. Merrell has contributed significantly to preparing the next generation of physics and physical science teachers providing exceptional continuing education for science teaching,” the award reads. “He developed a teacher training program that has gained national recognition. Merrell is known by students for his individualized, one-on-one mentoring.”
