Coming off a disappointing 72-38 loss to Uintah on Tuesday, the Carbon Dinos rebounded to beat Union just a night later by a score of 66-59 to even their record at 5-5.
Cole Fossat nailed five three pointers on the night en route to 25 points. Fossat nailed three of his treys in the third quarter alone. Peyton Fausett got going in the second half and finished with 11 points. Gage Daugherty chipped in a career-high of 10.
Kasey Moynier capped off a 10-3 Dino run to end the first quarter with a layup off of his own missed shot. The Dinos led 16-11 after the opening frame. Union responded with an 11-3 run in the second to take a 22-19 lead. Brad Williams connected on a three pointer to tie the score up at 22. The Cougars led by as many as five in the second quarter before Carbon ended the half on a 5-0 run to tie the game up at 31 going into the break.
In a back-and-forth third quarter, neither team could take more than a two-point lead until Carbon ended the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 50-42 lead. The Dinos led by as many as 12 points in the fourth quarter for the win.
Fossat’s five three pointers in the game gave him 26 on the season, which places him second in state in total three-pointers made.
Carbon (5-5, 0-0 Region 12) will host Tooele (2-4, 0-0 Region 11) on Friday. The game will be televised live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
