Four students from Carbon High attended the national Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competition, hosted the week of July 2 in San Diego. Hannah Powell, Mason Rogers, Jaylee Cox and Shaubre Stockdale all represented the Price-based high school with their projects at the event.

Powell, who will be entering her senior year, competed with a project in the advocacy category, which led the student to take action in instructing locals about distracted driving. Powell presented on the topic in several classes at CHS as well as in local middle schools and was awarded a gold medal at the competition for her efforts.

Soon-to-be juniors Rogers and Cox teamed up at the competition for the category of food innovations. The duo were faced with a task of creating a vitamin and mineral-rich drink that would be both healthy and appealing to a high school consumer base. Their sparkling fruit and vegetable drink brought them home a gold as well.

Stockdale brought home the final gold medal with her project in career investigation. Stockdale, who will be a sophomore in the coming school year, investigated the career of a pastry chef and has also been elected out of 15 students to serve as one of ten FCCLA state officers for the state of Utah.

The students’ advisor, Troy Chilcott, was pleased with the students and their job well done at representing the state at the national competition.
