From Easton Gordon’s three-pointer within 10 seconds of the opening tip, the Emery Spartans continued to sink three after three until the final buzzer sounded, ending in a dominant 93-53 win over cross-county rival Carbon.

In all, the Spartans tallied 18 threes in the game, tying them with Valley for third most threes made in a game in Utah state history. Pleasant Grove and Woods Cross hold the record with 20 made threes, set a season ago.

Tyler Butler led Emery with six threes en route to a game-high 21 points. Brax Jensen and Easton Gordon each sunk four triples in the game, with Jensen netting 15 points and Gordon 19. Cade Brazier connected on three threes as well, ending with nine points. Kyson Stilson hit the other three in the game and finished with 17 points.

Derek Hillam, with only two points scored in the first half, scored 18 in the second for 20 points, which led Carbon. Colin Lewis and Ryan Gagon each chipped in seven points apiece.

Emery jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead before Ty Anderson’s three got the Dinos on the board. A barrage of threes (6 of 10) by the Spartans in the quarter gave the home team the 32-7 lead heading into the second period. By halftime, Emery led Carbon 47-14.

The Dinos were a different team in the second half, playing within seven points of the Spartans the rest of the way.

Through the first five games of the season, Emery has connected on 59 three-pointers (11.8 per game). Butler’s 17 made threes on the season has him second in 3A (and statewide) in that category. Brazier’s 16 has him in third in 3A.

Emery (3-2, 0-0 Region 15) will host Maeser Prep on Friday. Carbon (1-5, 0-0 Region 14) will play at Spanish Fork on Friday before hosting Juab on Wednesday.
