Friday the 13th Proves Lucky For Emery Swimmers

The Emery High swim team didn’t need any horseshoes or four-leaf clovers for luck during their home meet last Friday, which ended in Emery’s favor as both the girls’ and boys’ teams walked away with first-place wins overall.

The girls’ team finished with a stellar 217 points, over 100 above second-place Payson.

The team’s 200-yard medley relay grabbed first in its race thanks to the work of Alexis Johansen, Angellena Migliori, Kaelee Hooley and Katie Carter, clocking in at 2:13.96. Johansen returned for another first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, nearly 14 seconds above Delta’s CJ Kooyman, at 2:25.76.

Emery dominated in the 50-yard freestyle, with BriAnne Bass grabbing first, 28.99, along with teammates Carter and Hooley managing second and third, respectively. Bass returned in the 100-yard butterfly for a third-place win.

Carter came back in the 100-yard freestyle for a third-place victory while Johansen and Hooley represented in the 500-yard freestyle, the former grabbing first and a time of 6:45.61.

Emery shone again in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Tarryn Parkins, Bass, Erin Oliverson and Carter managing first and a time of 2:02.30. Abigail Olsen, Jocee Funk, Shiloh Hayward and Laci Hulse managed second while Alejandra Garcia, Raquelle Simmons, Makyan Nielson and Eme Oliverson grabbed third in the same race.

Lady Spartan Sydeny Terwilleger along with Hulse finished second and third in the 100-yard backstroke while Bass, Hooley, Erin Oliverson and Johansen boosted the girls’ score by placing first in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team finished in 4:25.92. The team of Parkins, Nielson, Migliori and Terwilleger also grabbed third in the same race.

The boys’ team finished first as well, narrowly coming in five points ahead of second-place Payson.

Emery’s Keldan Guymon, Daryl Guymon, Garret Stilson and Nate Gilbert brought home first in the 200-yard medley relay, finishing in 1:48.25. Deegan Minchey also managed to grab second for the Black and Gold in the 200-yard IM.

Daryl Guymon grabbed another first for the Spartans in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 23.24. Keldan Guymon and Minchey put up even more points for the home team in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in first, 54.83, and second, respectively.

Keldan Guymon, Allen Durrant, Minchey along with Daryl Guymon scored another first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:40.65. Keldan Guymon returned next in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing second.

Daryl Guymon grabbed second in the 100-yard breaststroke while teammates Stilson, Logan Cox, Gilbert and Minchey brought home first in the 400-yard freestyle relay and a time of 3:44.29.

The Emery High swim team will continue their action at home with the next chance at victory coming on Tuesday of this week.
