Over the weekend while Helper City’s main street was decked out in lights and vendors, another celebration was occurring: the centennial of The Assumption of The Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.

The celebration, which took place last Friday, Saturday and Sunday, gave those in attendance a chance to celebrate the congregation and what it has done to contribute to Carbon County and the surrounding areas.

Some of the activities included a centennial golf tournament, a bus tour highlighting several mining towns and other points of historical interest, a gala banquet as well as a Sunday morning Orthros and Divine Liturgy.
