On Monday evening, among the many events happening with the school year coming to end, GEAR UP hosted its annual recognition banquet and signing ceremony at Utah State Eastern.
Those in attendance were able to enjoy dinner and dessert at the evening event. This signing ceremony was for all those who participated in the GEAR UP program that are graduating this year as the class of 2019. The schools who were a part of this event were Emery High School, Carbon High School, Lighthouse High School, Green River High School and Pinnacle Canyon Academy.
Each school had a GEAR UP Scholar of the year among the students who were part of their program.
Carbon High had seven students graduating from the program: Beau Tubbs, Hunter Powell, Jacob Jewkes, Kaylee Houskeeper, Kenneth Hickman, Brittny Bridge and Robert (Bobby) Blake. The Scholar of the Year was Blake with alternate Hickman. Powell was also named Region 9 Student of the Year.
Emery High had three students, including Jeremy King, William (Billy) Leverton and Makiha Ann Pittman. Pittman was the GEAR UP Scholar of the year for EHS.
Green River High School had four students: Nathaniel Brown, Bryan Garcia, Cecilia Trejo and Prisma Mendez-Herrera, Green River’s Scholar of the Year.
Frida Acosta, Anthony Behling, Ahslee Peirce, Morgan Saindon, Hunter Wooden and Kitiara Price were part of the Lighthouse High School GEAR UP program. Price earned Scholar of the Year as a graduating junior.
Pinnacle Canyon Academy highlighted Dominic Tucker as their Scholar of the Year as well as the other ten students in the program at PCA: Kayla Auberger, Nikkita Cooke, Kaiden Dunegan-Hayes, Alexsandria Flores, Dakota Kerr, Joshua Kerr, Avery Maclean, Kayden Mitchell, Isaac Ochoa and Kayleigh Thomas.
The student who was selected as Scholar of the Year from each school will receive a $1,000 scholarship to Utah State University Eastern for the upcoming fall and spring semester.
