Ryan Monson with the Carbon County Building and Planning Department was awarded as the May employee of the month at the county’s commission meeting that commenced, as usual, on Wednesday evening. Rose Barnes and Todd Thorne presented this award to Monson, taking time to speak about his accomplishments.

Thorne stated that Monson did all of his testing in a timely manner while also checking on all of the final inspections, paperwork and reports. He has taken the changes to the department in stride and adapted well. Monson also has a decent amount of construction experience that has proven extremely helpful to the department.

“We just want to thank him for all of his hard work he has put in,” Thorne said.

Also present at the meeting was Miss Carbon County’s Outstanding Teen Wynter Pendray. Pendray spoke with the commissioners, giving background on herself and the organization, which has served the community for over 60 years. Pendray introduced her platform as “Get Uncomfortable.”

Pendray stated that she chose this platform through her own struggle with anxiety. She continued by stating that it is important that everyone is aware that they are able to get out of their comfort zones and face their fears. The platform is for anyone that is going through a hard time or has a fear they cannot overcome. Pendray also informed the commissioners that she is writing a children’s book that she wants published and has visited many of the elementary schools in the area and plans to continue that endeavor.

Pendray then thanked the commissioners and community for always being so supportive and stated that the organization is once again asking for financial assistance. Pendray is representing Carbon County at the Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in March of next year.

The price of admission for the state competition is $400 and Pendray shared a breakdown of cost on an invoice given to the commissioners. She then asked for any support available, to which the commissioners agreed that the budget would be gone over and a donation would be happily made.
