Goldie K. Eliopulos, age 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born on August 27, 1925, in Sunnyside, Utah, to Pete and Foto (Galanis) Kandaris, and was the oldest of four children—she and her beloved siblings Mike, Annie, and John. She spent her youth involved with activities organized by The Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Price, Utah, including the church choir and the American-Hellenic Youth Organization.
Goldie graduated from Carbon High School in 1943, and eight years later married John L. Eliopulos, her handsome Marine, from Grand Junction, Colorado. The two would spend the next forty-eight years together, raising their two children, Louis and Tina, and roaming the West due to John’s work in the construction and mining industry. During this time, Goldie worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for a variety of small and large businesses. However, her greatest joy arrived with the birth of her granddaughter, Madelynne Crisi Moffett, who inspired and enriched the last twenty years of her life.
Wherever she lived, Goldie enjoyed taking long walks—especially those along the Boise Greenbelt, in Boise, Idaho. She also enjoyed visiting community libraries, collecting coins and stamps, and watching sporting events. Goldie had an enthusiastic appetite for purses, shoes, eyewear, paper products, tweezers, elephants, the Game Show Network, Yahtzee, Farkel, box cereals, cheese Danishes, and afternoon coffee. She was unwaveringly optimistic and kind, and always offered a listening ear to those in need—even complete strangers. She is survived by her brother John Kandaris (Price, Utah), her daughter Tina, her son-in-law Todd Moffett, her granddaughter Madelynne Crisi, her pupper Winnie, and her many nieces and nephews, who were a constant source of love for her.
She loved the sound of Aunt (Thea) Goldie. She is preceded in death by her brother Mike and sister Annie, her husband John, and her son Louis. The family would like to thank Goldie’s doctors, in particular Regan Holdridge and Laurie Larsen, who contributed to her cancer care for many years, as well as her caregivers Susan Lopez and Christie Crookston, who so brightened her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church (5300 El Camino Road, Las Vegas, NV 89118) or to St. Anne Catholic School (1813 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89104).
A viewing and Trisagion will be held on Monday, July 2, at 4 p.m., and funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at St. John’s. Goldie’s burial will take place at Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery (7600 S. Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, Nevada 89123) immediately following the funeral.
