Great Pitching Leads the Spartans Past Grand 8-1

An impressive effort by Ashton Bell carried the Spartans to an 8-1 win in seven innings over Grand on Tuesday at Grand High.

Bell struck out 10, paving the way for a the Spartans win. She allowed no earned runs on two hits and two walks over seven innings.

Kambrie Hinkins  rocked Grand with two home runs. Hinkins went 2-3 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. She homered in the second and fourth innings.

Five runs in the opening three innings allowed the Spartans to easily put away Grand. An RBI single by Makaila  Clark and a two-run home run by Hinkins in the second inning fueled the Spartans’ offense early.

Additional home runs for the Spartans came when Hinkins homered in the second and fourth innings and Gentry Noyes homered in the sixth inning.

R Bohannon took the loss for Grand. She allowed eight runs in seven innings, walked three and struck out three.

The Spartans pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the fourth. In the third, the Spartans scored on a two-run double by Clark, bringing home Jacie Huntington and Taylor Payne.

The Spartans piled on two more runs in the top of the fourth. A solo blast by Hinkins ignited the offense. That was followed up by  Bell’s double, scoring  Haylee Beckstead.

Emery will take on San Juan at home tonight.
