Green River and Pinnacle Compete in Region 19 Championships

Green River and Pinnacle high schools rounded out the Region 19 season at the region championship on Wednesday. Green River finished the day in second while Pinnacle notched a fourth place finish.

The Green River boys started the day on a high note with a first place finish by Joe Serafin and a second place finish by Kyle Johnson in the 100 meters. Tyrell Shumway also notched a fourth place finish in the race. Serafin continued to lead the pack as he crossed the line in first in the 200 meters and jumped into first place in the long jump, jumping a foot farther than the second place finisher. Johnson also earned points for the team with a first place finish in the 800 meters as well as a second place finish in the long jump. Jon Mendez and Corbin Mecham were impressive in the high jump for Green River, finishing in first and fifth, respectively. Mecham took the top spot in the shot put and third in the discus. Shumway rounded out the boy’s team with a javelin launch that put him in first place, throwing nearly 40 feet farther than the second place competitor with a throw of 160-01 feet.

Cassidee Moore kickstarted the Green River girls with a third place finish in the 100 meters as well as a first place finish in the 800 meters. Moore also took second in the 1600 meters. Savannah Williams earned points for her team with a first place finish in the 300-meter hurdles as well as the high jump. Williams also took second in the long jump and sixth in the 100 meters. Freshman Miranda Johnson threw for a third place finish in the discus. Moore also ended with a first place finish in the javelin.

For the Pinnacle Panthers, Hunter Sherman led the boy’s team with a third place finish in the 100 meters as well as a second place finish in the 200 meters. The sophomore also took first in the 110-meter hurdles. James Sanchez notched a second place finish in the 400 meters as well as the 300-meter hurdles. Jeremy Roberts also earned points for the team with a fifth place finish in the 1600 meters while Brenden Neumeier took fifth in the 3200 meters.

Sophomore Nyet Rasmussen led the Lady Panthers, taking first in the 100 meters as well as the 200 meters. Rasmussen also took first in the 100-meter hurdles. Misty Mingham and Kaeley Taylor earned points for Pinnacle as they finished in third and fourth, respectively, in the 400 meters. Taylor was also impressive in the long jump, launching herself to a first place finish. Valentina Motte rounded out the scoring for the girls with a third place finish in the shot put.

Both Panther teams rounded out the day with the sprint medley relay. The boys ran to a first place finish while the girls came in third.

Green River finished the day with 155 points followed by Pinnacle with 99.
