Green River Boys Get First Win, Girls Continue Drought

The Green River Pirates picked up their first win of the season Wednesday against the visiting Altamont Longhorns, 51-47.

Tied at the half, Green River outscored Altamont 15-8 in the third quarter and held on in the fourth for its first win in nine games so far this season.

Sophomore Jacob Cox and senior Jovini Flores combined for 30 point in the win. Cox nailed three threes in the game. He has a total of 15 on the season. The Pirates will be off until Jan. 5 when they play at Wayne High School.

The Lady Pirates suffered another setback Thursday night at home to Duchesne. The Lady Eagles outscored Green River in every quarter en route to the 61-32 win. Maribel Escalante led the Lady Pirates with 15 points on five threes. Her 21 treys on the season rank her tied for first place in 1A.

The Lady Pirates are now in midst of a seven game losing streak. Green River will next play Manila High School at home on Jan. 2.
