Green River Fire Chief Philip Engleman died on Sunday afternoon in a crash on U.S. 6 in Emery County.
Engleman, who also served formerly as a city councilman, was traveling on U.S. 6 at 3:53 p.m when his vehicle crossed the center line and hit two semi trailers. Engleman sustained fatal injuries and died on scene. The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the drivers of the two trailers were not injured.
“We extend our immense gratitude to Chief Engleman for his decades of steadfast and dedicated service to his beloved community and to his family for supporting him in his efforts,” Green River City Mayor Travis Bacon said following the accident. “The city and its citizens have greatly benefitted from his selfless commitment to service and his considerable knowledge, skills and abilities. He will be dearly missed.”
Bacon continued by stating that on behalf of Engleman, the flags at city hall will be lowered to half staff beginning at 8 a.m. Monday morning and will remain so until his interment.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family,” Bacon concluded.
