The 2018 State 1A Baseball Championship games recently took place and local Castle Country teams from Pinnacle Canyon Academy and Green River High were in attendance.

First, on Sept. 29, the Pinnacle Panthers faced off against the Wendover Wildcats. Pinnacle began the game strong and were able to keep the Wildcats from scoring for the first three innings. However, after a tight fourth and fifth inning, Wendover came back in the sixth, outscoring the Panthers 2-1. The seventh inning found Pinnacle on solid ground at 3-0, ending the game with the Panthers triumphant at 10-2.

In the quarterfinals, Pinnacle then met with Piute. While the game was said to have been tight, Piute was able to score the victory at 7-1. This ended Pinnacle’s run in the state championship.

Meanwhile, the Green River first played against the Intermountain Christian Lions on Sept. 29. The Pirates slaughtered the Lions in the match with a final score of 17-0, pushing them on to then meet up with the Valley Buffaloes on Oct. 2. This game proved to be not as successful for the Pirates, who lost to Valley with a final score of 15-5, ending their state championship run.
