On Dec. 6, the Green River High School (GRHS) Pirates faced off against the Tintic Miners in a neutral, non-conference game at the Manila High School Tournament.
The Pirates played to their strengths and were able to overcome the Miners with a final score of 73-54. Axel Anguiano earned 20 of the team’s points, followed by Rad Hughes with 19. Weston Hatfield also scored well for Green River with 13 points.
Following that triumph, the Pirates fell to the Manila Mustangs following their next game on the following day. The final score was 52-40. Anguiano once again notched the most points with 15.
Then, the team faced off against the Dugway Mustangs in a neutral, non-conference game. The Pirates were able to find their footing once more and dominated in the competition, coming out with a final score of 60-25. Hughes scored well for the team, ending with 15.
On Dec. 12, GRHS then traveled to Monticello High School to take on the Buckaroos. Not ready to give up their winning ways, the Pirates fought valiantly against the Buckaroos. However, they were unable to keep up the pace and dropped the game 55-35. Anguiano continued to lead the team with an average of 15.3 points per game.
Most recently, on Dec. 14, the team traveled to the Sevier Valley Center to compete against the Manila Mustangs once more. Hoping to earn revenge against the team after their last fail, the team fought to overcome. Unfortunately, that did not happen as the Mustangs won with a final score of 78-56.
Next, the team will meet with Dugway on Tuesday evening. The Pirates will welcome the team to their home turf beginning at 7 p.m.
