Green River’s track and field team has much to look forward this year. With a handful of returning athletes, their first meet took place on Saturday, March 13 in Moab.

Coach Ryan Hepworth remarked that it is a good meet to kickoff the year as it lets the athletes know where they need to improve and gets them back in the groove of competition.

The team is also marked for two Carbon meets this year, with the first being a large meet with schools from across the state. This will be the team’s second meet of the season on Saturday, March 20.

“With no wind, their track is one of the fastest tracks in the state,” Hepworth stated about Carbon High.

Following this, they have the Blue Mountain Invitational on April 24, Eastern Utah Championships on April 30 and the BYU Invitational on May 7-8 before the region and state competitions are slated to begin later in May. All dates and meets are scheduled tentatively with COVID-19 in mind.

This year, there will be two freshmen on the team, Jennilee Andrus and Jo Vollmer, as well as two sophomores, Emily Roundy and Camden Anderson. Ryder Norman is the lone junior on the team while there are six seniors: Rilee Lenhoff, Angel Cordingly, Talynn Lovato, Megan Vollmer, Ethan Johnson and Alex Mendez.

“As always, my goal for the team is to give everyone a chance to go to state and compete at that venue. It is always lots of fun and the performances are amazing to see,” concluded Hepworth.
