U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) received the “Taxpayer Hero” award today from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), a national independent organization that advocates for cutting wasteful government spending. Hatch was recognized for his efforts to eliminate wasteful spending and reduce our record high $14.6 trillion national debt. He received a 97 percent (out of 100) from the organization.
“Taxpayers are sick and tired of seeing their hard earned money sent to Washington only to be squandered,” Hatch said. “The only way we can try and right the fiscal ship in Washington is to keep a watchful eye on where we can cut spending. I appreciate the recognition of my efforts to fight for a balanced budget amendment and to rein in out of control government spending to help strengthen our economy for current and future generations of Utahns.”
CCAGW awards its rankings by examining all 535 Members of Congress’s roll call votes taken on legislation deemed significant to cutting spending by the organization. CCAGW’s 2010 Congressional Ratings scored 46 votes in the House and 62 votes in the Senate.
