Despite home runs from Bryton Hess and Jaiden Huntington, the Emery High Lady Spartans couldn’t complete the comeback Friday losing at North Sanpete, 9-4.

Emery scored two runs in the top half of the seventh inning to bring the Spartans to within five but that’s where the scoring would end. North Sanpete’s Makayli Jorgensen shut the door on Emery in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

Neither team pushed any runs across until the fourth when the Spartans took a 2-0 lead. The Hawks then scored four runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth en route to the win.

Emery’s Whitney Roper picked up the loss from the circle for her first of the season. She is now 1-1 after three games.

Emery will next travel to Carbon Tuesday for its second matchup of the year with the Dinos. The Spartans beat the Dinos last Tuesday 7-2.
