Heavy Rain Forces Closure of Huntington Canyon

Heavy rain continues to pose significant problems for road crews along State Road 31 in Huntington Canyon. According to Janalee Luke of the Emery County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Management team, the roadway was closed to traffic at approximately 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rainfall over the Seeley Fire burn scar resulted in heavy debris flow near Pole Canyon.

Although SR 31 was reopened Wednesday evening, Luke advises motorists to check road conditions before traveling through Huntington Canyon. Flooding has forced the closure of the roadway several times this summer.

Utah Department of Transportation and Emery County Sheriff personnel will continue to monitor the roadway closely each time a storm moves through the area.
