The Helper City Council gave back to the community as various organizations requested donations from the city at its May meeting.

First to approach the council was Lisa Pierce from the Black Diamond Rodeo. Pierce explained that the rodeo will take place June 19-20 this year. While many rodeos charge spectators $15-20 per ticket, the Black Diamond Rodeo Committee prides itself on providing a low-cost event for those of all ages.

“Tickets are only $9 for adults and $6 for children,” Pierce explained.

In support of the rodeo, the council approved the donation of multiple tickets to the Helper swimming pool as part of the prizes the rodeo awards at the event.

Also on the agenda was a request for a donation to the Miners Memorial. While members of the council wanted to donate as much as possible, the council agreed that the matter should be tabled until it could be decided where funds could be pulled for the donation.

An update on the Helper Arts Festival was also given at the meeting. This year, the festival will take place August 13-15. A change festival goers will see this year is a gallery stroll on Thursday in place of Sunday festivities. While vendors can pack up on Sunday, there will not be activities for the public.
