Helper City Council members met for a specially scheduled meeting on Monday afternoon to to discuss the possible signing of a letter of support intended to assist in receiving a grant for the Garley Wash project. Council members David Dornan and Thomas Williams were excused from the meeting.

Council member Gary Harwood stated that a call was received from Jones & Demille Engineering requesting that the council members sign a letter of support that would be needed during this week. The NRCS will then be approached concerning a grant for $10 million that will go toward the renovation and cleanup of the wash.

The plan is to do river work and species removal in the area, such as Russian Olive trees. The grant is slated to be awarded in either November or December of this year.

“I think we need to show our support, I do believe that it will benefit the county,” Harwood stated.

The letter of support was approved of and signed by the council members.
