Cole Fossat smashed a pitch over the left field wall in the ninth inning against St. George in a quarterfinal matchup Monday night, propelling the Helper American Legion team into the state semifinals.

Fossat drove Ridge Nielson home after Nielson drew a walk in the bottom of the ninth. Fossat also pitched four scoreless innings after Jarod Lessar pitched five solid innings, in which he surrendered just two runs.

It was payback for Helper as St. George came from behind June 27 to beat Helper in the St. George Tournament, 8-6. Helper held a late-inning lead in that game before surrendering the lead.

Helper will look for a spot in the championship game with a win Tuesday night. Trappers Orange is the team that stands in its way. The two will square off at 8 p.m. in Logan. A win for Helper would secure a Thursday championship game at 5 p.m.
