Price’s City Council chambers were full Wednesday evening as friends and family gathered together for the presentation of an award to the Helper Hitmen, a baseball team comprised of young men that recently represented Carbon County in the Black Diamond Big Diggers baseball tournament Aug. 12-13.

The city council was represented at the meeting as well, with council member Wayne Clausing being excused.

The award, donated by a businessman and presented for the team’s outstanding sportsmanship at the tournament, was given to the team at the council’s Wednesday meeting. Though the team bears Helper’s name, Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo presented the award and thanked the team for the influence they have on Price as well.

“Let me tell you something,” Mayor Piccolo said to those in attendance. “I believe that if you raise the water in the reservoir, all the boats come up together. So, when these young men represent themselves well on the baseball field, it’s from our community, it also helps Price City.”

“We’re not hogging Helper’s glory,” he continued. “We’re simply saying ‘you brought our boat up with the rise in the reservoir,’ young men.”

Mayor Piccolo also thanked and praised the team’s coaches Tony Alford and Curtis Page for their work with the team.

“It’s my pleasure on behalf of the First Lady of Price, the city council; all of us, one missing but all of us who are elected in the office of mayor,” Mayor Piccolo said, “truly find it an honor to give you an opportunity to share a moment of pride, a moment of accomplishment and a moment of personal victory.”
