The Helper Merchants American Legion team went 3-1 over the weekend at the RBI Tournament in Burley, ID.
After winning its first game on Thursday against Minico 2-1, Helper then won its second game of the tourney on Friday against Blackfoot 6-5 and then lost in the nightcap to Burley, 11-10. Both games went into extra innings. The Merchants then took the championship on Saturday with a 7-3 victory over Jerome.
Nick Olson had three RBIs with a double against Blackfoot in the extra-inning affair. Helper scored the last two runs in the game, one in the sixth to tie the score at five and another in the eighth for the win. Jayden Flemett got the win on the mound after spelling Zac Bradley who went five innings, allowing two earned runs. Flemett went three innings of no-hit ball for the win.
Friday night again saw the Merchants in a tight contest, this time against Burley. Jadon Robertson had two doubles in the game with a game-high four RBIs. Ty Anderson and Olson also added two RBIs apiece. Easton Gordon struck out 10 batters in the game to go along with two earned runs. Robertson took the loss in relief, tossing 1 2/3 innings while striking out three. Helper had 13 hits in the game.
Helper bounced back in the championship game Saturday morning against Jerome, taking the victory, and the title, 7-3. Braxton Bennett tossed the complete game, allowing just one earned run, three total, with eight strikeouts. Three players had two hits apiece, with Flemett and Anderson each going 2-3 with doubles and singles. Bennett went 2-3 with two singles. Five players notched an RBI apiece in the game.
Helper, now 5-1 on the season, will be in action Friday night at USU Eastern against Dixie at 6:30 p.m.
