Two dominant pitching performances from Helper American Legion propelled the team to a doubleheader sweep Monday night against Price American Legion in Helper.
In game one, Cole Fossat took the mound and tossed a one-hit gem. Helper won the game 10-0, including a four-run first inning. Mitch Olson and Fossat bashed a triple and double, respectively, in the opening frame to help the home team. Olson was a home run short of the cycle and had three hits in the game with two RBIs. Helper had five triples in the game, with Tiger Thayn, Jayden Flemmett, Zac Bradley and Taylon Abeyta each legging one out.
The lone hit in game one for Price came off the bat of Trevor Pummell in fourth. Johnny Tallerico took the loss for Price.
It was much of the same in game two as Helper squirted out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning and won the game 8-0. Olson and Bradley each went 2-4 in the game with two singles. Bradley also had two RBIs. Abeyta was 2-3 with a double and a single. Chase Morgan walked twice and nailed a single. Olson allowed just one hit in six innings of work.
Drew Jones had the only hit in the game for the Raptors, a single in the sixth and final inning to break up Olson’s no-hit bid. Gavin Robinette took the loss for Price.
Helper will travel to Salt Lake City on Saturday to take on Cyprus in a doubleheader. Price will travel to Green River Wyo. this weekend for the Knights Invitational.
