High school rodeo started over the weekend for the 2018-19 school year in Oakley, Utah. Five Emery Spartans placed in the top ten in their respective events, qualifying them for state finals.
On Friday at the South Summit 1 rodeo, Will and Wyatt Magnuson placed third in team roping, earning eight points. In the reining cow competition, Drake Weber was fourth and Korby Christiansen finished seventh, qualifying them with seven and four points, respectively.
On Saturday at the South Summit 2 rodeo, Jessie McElprang roped fast enough to place third and qualified with eight points in girls’ breakaway roping.
The next high school rodeos are in Vernal this coming weekend, Aug. 23 and 24. The Spartans will then move on to Panquitch on Sept. 7 and 8.
