The Pole Creek Fire continues to affect travelers as Highway 6 remains closed as of Tuesday morning.

According to the Utah Department of Transportation, the Highway is closed at milepost 178, the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon, and at milepost 230, just north of Helper at US-191. Travelers are advised to use alternate routes, traveling trough Duchesne or l-70.

Currently, there is no estimation as to when the highway will reopen.

Closures are credited to the Pole Creek Fire, which has swelled to 71,873 acres as of Monday evening. The blaze is 23% contained and 687 personnel are involved in fighting the fire.

The lightning-cased fire started on Sept. 6 and has been pushed by hot, dry winds. According to crews, current plans include direct and indirect action of the portion of the fire north of Highway 6. Personnel aim to slow the fire and prevent is from crossing Highway 6 near Sheep Creek.
